we have 6 people in our family and just bought a 4200sf house = 700sf each.
eta didnt plug in a formula though, just found a house we fell in love with.

I grew up in a house of 6 with about 2200 sf. Shared a room growing my whole life.
Now I have 2 kids and we have 3500 and I ain't going to lie it's pretty tight.
