I've heard through the grapevine that BP was asking for voluntary resignations and providing one months salary for every year you were there. I know other companies are making cuts as well. I had the awkward experience of calling a contractor who had been working with us on a project only to be i formed by him that he is no longer providing services for that operator. Tough times.

And I just moved 6 hours from home, have a 4 month old, and my wife left her job to stay home. We have a savings that could get us through a year or so, but this is gut-wrenching. And we lost one of my projects recently . I know I'm well thought of in the company and feel I'm definitely an asset, but that doesn't even matter right now. Its a tough pill to swallow.

Yep it's tough. Nowadays you just a number. If you don't have a bean counter job I would say your job is not safe at this point in time.
