Did you have a bad experience there? I used to park there to use the metro and occasionally stay in a hotel there for a night if I got too sloppy in the city. Never had a problem there.

Nothing wrong with Springfield -- as bedroom communities go it is reasonably close to DC. But as visitors you should stay much closer in than this.

Lots of construction and maintenance of the Metro system going on now. Large sections will close or single-track for an entire weekend. If you stay out there and there is a service interruption you are screwed.

Crystal City area is a very good choice.
