For someone who runs just to stay in shape, and not necessarily. An 8 minutes mile is decent. When I run long distance, farthest I do is about 2.5 miles.(I hate running long distance, ID much rather sprint) I'all do about 21-23 minutes.

I'm enjoying these post that are saying 5 minute miles are what he should strive for..... Those are basically a minute off the world record times (3:46 is record I believe)
A 5 minute mile is near elite status a 4 minute mile is elite and a 6 minute mile would put him upper lvls of physical fitness.
