I grew up with football, it's my favorite sport. I did gain an appreciation for soccer when living overseas though. I'm comfortable in either sphere, to be honest.

I don't mind soccer, I like the World Cup. What I don't need is people telling me why I need to like soccer. It's a sport with great athletes, but so's figure skating, gymnastics, track & field, etc.... Should I like those sports too? (I can appreciate them, but not care about them). Live and let live. If people like the sport, they'll watch. There's no need to go all "America" all over our asses to make a case.
