I saw the documentary a year or so ago & agree with a lot of sentiments here.

If there is one thing I've learned it's that Frey and Henley can be massive dicks.

It's all about the Benjamin's for these 2

IMO Don Felder is the most under rated Eagle though, not Joe Walsh.

You obviously weren't around in the 70's if you think that.

And though I love JW, Felder is indeed the most underrated member.

I love the Eagles. Of course, I'm an old fart so that explains a lot.

Why do you think Felder is the most underrated member. And I noticed others share your opinion.

TIA.

Due to the efforts of Henley and Frey as self-aggrandizing counts and also Walsh's gregarious and outgoing personality, Felder get's lost in the background, despite probably being the best pure guitar player the band's ever had. He seems to have had the same misfortune as George Harrison had in the Beatles when he tried to get his songs on their albums and he had to fight Paul and John. Felder had trouble getting his stuff on the Eagles albums when Frey and Henley demanded most of the space.

And despite Frey's assertations in the History documentary, listening to THIS, Felder's voice isn't horrible.

I guess it all depends on if you like the Walsh era albums or not.I liked Hotel. Thought it was a great album. Long Run not so much but the band wasn't even talking to each other at the time so there is that. The band wanted to go more rock after Leadon left so it was going to happen regardless of who they replaced him with.

No, Joe Walsh did not ruin the Eagles and I need to (must) see this documentary.

After watching that, I felt like Felder was a jealous guy who couldn't accept his role. Frey and Henley are jerks, but Felder didn't deserve equal pay (they hinted that was an issue) or the chance to sing.

The feud between Henley and David Geffen was outstanding.

I felt the worst for Randy Meisner. I liked his voice, but he was just a weird, quiet dude who couldn't coexist with the band over the long term.

I took away from it that Glen Fry was a badass. When the band got back together and Felder wanted equal pay, Fry told him that Henley and Fry had kept their careers going which provided the opportunity for a reunion. Let's face it, Fry and Henley were the 2 main voices of the Eagles, so I think Fry was correct in wanting Henley and himself to get a bigger cut after the reunion. My impression is that before the breakup, they did have equal shares.

Turn to Stone, Felder v Walsh. This is as tasty as it gets.

He didn't seem that weird to me but Timothy Schmit gives me the creeps. Makes me cringe in his interviews.

A pretty good summation & good comparison with Harrison. You could probably put Brad Whitford in there too since he's overshadowed by Joe Perry but arguable better (at least technically A LOT better than Perry).

The difference between JW & DF (IMO) is JW wants to be a rock star and DF doesn't; he just wants to play.

Said Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler of the two guitarists, "Joe is self-taught and his playing comes from raw emotion. Not that Brad's doesn't, but his style is more schooled."

I also see he contributed quite a bit to a number of songs.
