Yeah, not sure what he is talking about.

As long as your sitting a normal distance away, this shouldn't be a problem.

Just did it at my house. As long as your sitting is not to close it's totally fine. In any recently built house where the fireplace is the center focal point this is the optimal place so don't listen to the others. I did it myself because of the quotes I got were like $500-800 and I knew I could do it myself. Spliced into always hot leg in attic and added junction box and ran romex behind fireplace and installed outlet. Took about 3 hours total with bracket mount as well. Two lag screws into studs and that was it.

Definitely not optimal viewing angle, and it is cliche as frick.
