Yea the 8 point 14 inch rule to me means you'll end up having a lot of your good 2 year olds killed. I'm not saying I haven't done this because I def have but I've grown past that.
I'm also not suggesting 140 restrictions. That's just the restrictions I'd like to place on myself in the right setting. Im all for people killing a buck they are proud of but the next one should be bigger.

100% agree. It appears we're after the same thing.

Yea 140 is sort of unrealistic unless you have the correct "expensive" setup. Really would make it nothing younger than 4-4.5 unless designated a cull. In the areas where I want to be, along the river, Concordia, Tensas etc a 4-4.5 yr old deer is going to be close to 140 class if not bigger.

I know a lease where they "try" to only shoot 4.5 yr bucks and they end up scoring 130's when they take them. This is around Canton MS fwiw

There bones dont completely growing until 3.5 so until then the majority of there nutrients they consume go to that. There biggest jump in antler growth will be between 4-6 yrs old. However once they get to that age they damn near become ghost.

They get smart after hearing pop pop pop 3-4 yrs in a row

Maybe but it doesn't hurt to try and get the age structure and habitat where a 140 isn't unrealistic

Earlier it was stated 6-8 members, How many acres are you looking to find, 100ac/paying member?
Posted on 1/25/15 at 9:51 am to FelicianaTigerfan
Oh I am diff with you, a lot also has to do with how others are managing around you. You pretty much dont want to get out of WF though right?

Ideally 1200 would be nice.

In W Feliciana or surrounding parishes/counties
Posted on 1/25/15 at 11:13 am to GREENHEAD22
Unless you know someone with the land you are going to be leasing, the cost to lease per acre in one of those premier parishes or counties is probably $30-40/acre range.
If you want 1,200 acres and 8 members, you're at $4,500-$6,000/year without putting a kernel of corn or a pellet of protein on the ground, that's without planting an acre of oats and fertilzing, Not having a place to stay, running water or electricity. No tractor or diesel to maintain the roads. No stands.... there's a lot more that goes into it.

I guess you and whack are both deer hunters now. Im pretty sure dmatb is gonna be a full time deer hunter in the near future as well.

This I know which is why I said ideally, I know it is a long shot to say the least which is why I will probably settle for something in Woodville area or a place similar.

Well I am hoping he can get me in to the place he is trying to get into. I plan on getting a boat and taking a couple out of state trips for duck. Getting a duck lease is way to much of a crap shoot unless you know someone.

According to a study done by MSU and Texas A&M this is incorrect. A deer has reached 80% of his max potential by 3.5 years

8 people on 1200 acres and you can get mature bucks and in most places wall hangers without pourinG protein to them or planting expensive plots.
Hunting isn't expensive (except for lease fees). Sure all that stuff helps but I def wouldnt turn down a 1200 acre opportunity because I can't afford to accessorize it.

I don't disagree. I have a climber and some tripods I could throw in there right now. Pick up some corn/rice bran to give them something to stop at. I have cameras that I'm sure some still work.
However, I'm not driving 4 hours round trip 3 days in a row when I'm off, so I'd need a place to stay. If its going to cost me 4.5k+ I want a place to rest my head and a place to drop a deuce.

I have access to the best seed on the market for free as much as I want. I offered as much as anyone wanted on here a couple years back in exchange for some hunts but had no takers. I am not worried about food plots, I want the genes.

I feel like I'll never find a lease..
