I developed shellfish allergies at age 30. It doesn't stop me from eating shellfish, though.

She was prescribed an EPI pen. Thank you to the poster who recommended that and watching for cross contamination in restaura
that was me just tell her when she orders to let her waiter know that she is allergic to shellfish and do they fry in same grease and cook on same grill. Resturants are used to this and most big resturants are careful because its a pretty well known food allergy.

you are very brave, the reactions are known to get worse as time goes on. Just have benadryl on hand and get to an er quickly if this happens. I know a guy who was allergic and said screw it i just take benadryl and eat shrimp.. well
he did for a few years then one day his throat swelled so tight you could just hear a whistle when he breathed, lucky for him the er was near and got him epi to reverse it. Dr said do not touch it again!

Lots of people get gluten allergies later in life.

How does allergies like this pop up late in life?
It's not fully understood, but I like to blame antibacterial soap and parents not letting their kids play in the mud.

I'm careful and have benadryl and an epi on hand. For me, it gets better with time. The first time I had to go to the ER. Now, it's just mild hives for about 5 days.

While I actually think this is a plausible reason, I also know our bodies are in a constant state of change.... So with that in mind, developing allergies later in life is not really far fetched.
I had a cousin who loves peanuts... snack on them all the time at night watching TV. On day when he is in his late Fifties, he has a allergic reaction to them and nearly died. Now he cannot be around them at all.
Strange stuff...
