Yeah I'll wait to see how Steele does this year. I'll take orgeron over brick all day though.

Orgeron is one of, if not the best defensive line coaches in the country, who also has head coaching experience. I think he's a huge addition to the staff, and that's being modest. I'm not a huge fan of steele, but the combo of him and orgeron, is equal to chavis and brick. Having said that, they're both are better recruiters than brick and chvais. to be honest, chavis and recruiting don't belong in the same sentence.

Steele/Orgeron for one reason only.
The defense has been good but hasn't played with any fire since 2011. I think Steele and O can bring that back. If we can get back to being a solid, attacking defense that creates turnovers then I'm fine.

Chavis/Haley. Not even a question

Chavis/Orgeron
If it's gotta be one or the other though I'm taking Chavis/Haley

You lost a lot of guys to the draft. Leaders that play a big role in the locker room and on the field. Coaches can do a lot but without the senior leadership from top players that is big.
Just think of the amount of talent that has come and gone playing in the NFL during. Chavis time there and I get he may not have been big on recruiting but Chavis had credibility. Just my two cents.

No doubt - about time we got some extra energy and enthusiasm on the sidelines.

Steele/Orgeron, without question.

So Orgeron is the bacon wrapped around the Steele turd?

This is a good point. There are two knocks on Chavis, recruiting and motivation. That's not to say that players dislike Chavis, but he doesn't motivate that well on his own, and I am not sure Haley is that great at that either, certainly not as good as coach O is.
Chavis was paid big at LSU because he was consistent and dependable, and that means a lot to Miles. But considering he wasn't a great motivator or any sort of recruiter, he was overpaid. He won't have the depth of defensive talent at A&M and he will regress back to his years at Tennessee. (His years at Tennessee weren't bad, but they aren't worth top 3 assistant in the country money for sure.)

That's because you don't have a choice. So you're trying to convince yourself this is a good thing.
G'luck with that.

True but part of that motivation is on the coaches. Chavis had the whole "tradition doesn't graduate" thing yet after 2011 they just didn't play with fire.

He was a good coach but sometimes you need to mix shite up. Look at soccer overseas. They'll fire a guy for just because he's been there too long, results be damned.
I hate to use the cliche BUT Miles has been here 10 years. He's comfortable. The fire hasn't been there. Cam is his buddy and Chavis was here a while as well. After a while things just get stagnant. You can't be complacent.

Steele/Orgeron is not going to produce on the field the way Chavis/Haley would have. Probably not even close. They WILL perform as well on the recruiting trail, and possibly significantly better. I'd wager the LSU decision-makers are satisfied with BOTH of those results.
Why? Because they're ready to get rid of Miles. No other way to read it. Steele's defenses are not going to bail out Miles's offense nearly as much as has been the case in the past. And it's going to be reflected in the record, making it easier to justify canning him in two years.
But Orgeron will be stocking the cupboard with talent during those two years, so Miles's successor will have the raw materials to win.

aTm must be thinking the same thing right? I mean Sumlin is a good recruiter, but not much of a head coach, his production on the field is worth 5 mill a year? NO. Hell he barely beat ULM?

Yeah, no.
Steele probably learned a few things from Saban the last few years. If he's a decent coordinator then it's an even swap due to the HUGE recruiting advantage.
Haley wasn't that good. No way around that.

That same defense shite the bed multiple times in big games over the years. The only time I've thought we had a GREAT defense under Chavis was 2011. The rest of the time we've been good with a glaring flaw or two that was always exposed at very inopportune times.
2012 Alabama wasn't on the offense. 2013 Alabama wasn't on the offense. 2014 Alabama wasn't on the offense. Those have been our big games. The D shite the bed in all 3.
We kicked A&Ms arse every year we've played them under Chavis. Big deal. Plenty of other teams have as well.
