no, of course I'd like my first year starter to be a 5th year senior with 4 years in the (same) system. Of course that can help.

But it's not required and isn't critical. A 5th year senior who has taken no meaningful snaps for 4 years is getting very few reps in practice. Yes, he's been in the film room and hopefully has command of the playbook after all those years, but don't over-emphasize it.

A true freshman can blow the 5th year senior away if he has the ability and is coached up properly and has the right system in place.
