I built the rocket for just under $5000. A rocket just had to land safely on the Mun! If I had to move a Kerbal, I could do it, I'd just put a seat on top of the RCS globe.
On the launchpad.
Dropping the solid booster that helped me get into space...with such a light payload and all.
This rocket gets me at a level that I can sustain this orbit for some time, until I need to burn to the Mun.
Here's my encounter.
Here's my burn, I've dropped that engine and have the puttering little engine with small fuel tank now.
This is the second time I attempted this mission, the first one failed because I ran out of power and couldn't turn my ship, and ended up having my butt to Sol the entire way until I crashed into the Mun. This time, I made sure to stay pointed as to not lose power. I adjusted every now and then as I sped the game up. I don't think playing with saves is sportmanlike, so I did the whole mission over from launch.
Mun's got me in its gravity field, not I just have to burn so I'll fall towards it, on the sunny side! I had to align my ship before I went behind Mun so I'd get that light from Sol.
Burned and now we just wait.
Falling towards the big Mun crater.
Getting closer to the surface, time to slow down to 100 m/s. Hope I have enough fuel!
Got that speed way down, there's the shadow! Looks like uneven terrain. That never stopped me before!
Landed with lots of fuel in the tank. It helps to be light!
I noticed when I turned off the SAS I would start to lean down the hill. I would always be in the sunlight here, never really had to turn it off, so it's a WIN.
I decided to take off again and go explore. Found a flat area and skipped around a bit...but crashed.
I didn't get a picture of that.

I think you got this hands down, but there maybe a late contender.
