Nothing but a bunch of redneck trash in Gatlinburg.
You seem to be quite perceptive

If you do not like pancakes do not go. I swear every third building in Gatlinburg is a pancake house and a mini golf joint next to it. That being said we go every year. The family loves it. Wonderwerks is fun. Dollywood has great coastars. Uber Gatlinburg was fun too. But if you like night life this place has none. The wife and I go to some little Mexican joint and drink marharitas til nine then outside on their patio. Yes nine cuz that's when they close. The Alamo steak house has some of the best food and steaks I ever ate. Do not go on the Earthquake ride on the strip in Gatlinburg it sucks but my sons just had to go in and ride it. Try to catch some of the live shows at Dollywood they are worth it also. If ya bringing the wife there's a huge flea market and outlet area. We also did the hot tub thing on the porch. It was nice and most are secluded but we went in the summer so there was plenty of foliage for privacy but then you gotta worry about the bears lol.

go, lots of fun. Alot of these hard asses like to say dont go its a tourist trap, they think its the hipster thing to do. But just like anywhere you go there can be tourist traps. Go to the park, go to cades cove, eat at the old mill, go to the apple barn, do the moonshine tasting, if you have never been you should go to dollywood and dixie stampede. Ober gatlinburg to ice skate... we go to gatlinburg every year as a famly, and have a blast.
pretty much this. i'd also recommend going to The Smokey Mountain Knife Works, awesome store.

I'm going for Mardi Gras as well. Going with my 3 and 1 year old.
Never been and wifes been wanting to go for a while now.

and for the guy asking if the OP was 90 b/c he's traveling for Mardi Gras, it's the absolute best time to go on vacation b/c no one else is off of school for a week to scrap their knees to catch some plastic surrounded by trashy people getting drunk. I also don't own a tricked out ride or motor bike that i can ride down the route before and after the parade to show off.

All the people chiming in on the tourist trap thing sure know about all of the tourist traps.

We're going on 1/22 and avoid all the touristy crap for the most part.

The aquarium is cool
Coffee and Company For some good coffee
Pancake pantry
Cades cove
Moonshiners alley is actually really cool
Ober is decent, the most fun we have there is sitting at the bar drinking while watching people attempt to ski
Enjoy the scenery, drink some moonshine, tongue punch the fart box in the hot tub.
Repeat

Cades Cove is the most visited section of the GSMNP, can be a traffic nightmare if the weather is nice and one black bear is out

Go to www.NPS.gov and look up the GSM, also check out www.yoursmokies.com. for tips and informaton, Chris does a great job of getting up to date information.

Classic thread. Gatlinburg is a tourist trap, but Mardi Gras isn't

Forgot to say, we rented cabin that was located between pigeon forge and gatlinburg. Small wooded stretch between the two. If you want cabin, look up FRBO. Com. Something like that, for rent by owner. There is a million places posted. Ours had hot tub with small game room, video game and pool table
