A Look Ahead: 2017 NFL Draft Year of the RB?

In the 1983 draft, 6 quarterbacks ended up going in the first round. Out of those 6, 3 ended up being Hall of Famers, John Elway, Jim Kelly & Dan Marino.
This past draft will go down as the draft of the wide receiver with players like Sammy Watkins, Odell Beckham, Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin, all going in the 1st round. You also have notable receivers like Jarvis Landry, Marqise Lee & Jordan Matthews going in the 2nd round.
Looking ahead potentially to the 2017 draft, there could be several notable running backs in this draft if many chose to forego their senior seasons. Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, Dalvin Cook, Royce Freeman, Samaje Perine, Jalen Hurd, could possibly be apart of this class. Could this be the best possible class of backs ever?

RBs will never be what they used to be. Longevity of the average back is too short in the NFL.

Why is that though? It seems more teams employ their 2nd and 3rd string backs more than they did "back in the day".
It would seem logical to assume they should have longer careers due to less carries per season
