Dumars was absolutely atrocious as a GM the last eight years in Detroit. If he were able to draft anyone with a pulse other than Tayshaun Prince and Okur between 2000-2010 our championship window would have been longer, drove the roster into the ground after the title when it was clear it was no longer a contender, freely passed out contract extensions to marginal players, meddled in coaching/playing time decisions, used cap room on Ben Gordon and Charlie V, signed Josh Smith to play small forward, traded for Allen Iverson, dumped a lottery pick to Charlotte to get rid of Ben Gordon, gave away Arron Afflalo, and had nine coaches in fourteen years. Did I mention that the Pistons haven't made the playoffs since 2009?...wonder why that is. I could go on, just let me know.
So yeah, Joe Dumars would be a good hire if your goal is to sign-and-trade Anthony Davis for the next Ben Wallace should he decide to walk, steal a player of Rasheed Wallace's caliber, resurrect the career of Johnny Flynn, and pray to hire a top 5 coach in NBA history.

Gordon was 26 coming off a 21/3/3 season knocking down 2 3P a game in Chicago. He was one of the hottest FAs that season
CV was to be 25 coming off a 16/7/1 season in MIL. He was thought to be an up and coming big.
Im sure you and the rest of the Piston faithful were fapping hard at the prospect of bringing in those two young guys to help keep that run going. Obviously those guys shite the bed after getting paid. I dont think anyone expected that. Easy to knock those moves in hindsight.

Again, he dumped 2/$25m of Gordon's contract and the pick for an expiring Maggette. More of Gordon's fault for being terrible.

Cmon. If you are a GM, these types of moves happen. In one breath you want to win a title, but at the same time hold on to a young guy who isnt contributing?
As for Darko, every team in the NBA was all in on him. Of course, it only makes it worse that Melo, Bosh and Wade were the next three picks behind him
Your Piston bias is showing through and If i were a piston fan, Id probably hate the guy too.. But anyone can go back and pick apart their GM's terrible moves (it's done here all the time). Easy to do in hindsight. I dont think Dumars is the best GM in the world, but your hate is unfounded.
