At the very least the owner and his wife selecting both because they're likable locals seems like a horrible idea. The next GM should pick the coach, and looking at Dumars track record, he's mostly had success with coaching lifers and gotten burned every time he went with recent former players. Maybe they know each other and like each other, but on the surface Avery doesn't seem like a guy Dumars would/should go with.
