[quote]I don't think you understand what restructuring is. The player gets paid the same either way at the same time. We're just converting a guaranteed roster bonus into a signing bonus. There is not a reason to not do it. [/quote

I think restructuring is fine if we are sure about the player being good and staying the full contract, Brees and Lewis for example. Seems when we restructure it puts more dead money in the deals. I could be wrong, I'm asking more than anything. I would rather our cap situation be good when Brees leaves. I know we were 7-9 but we aren't but a few pieces and hopefully less injuries away from being a contender.

Well it usually needs to be a player with several years left on his contract in order for it to make any sense.

The cap hit is the same either way if we restructure those roster bonuses. It spreads it out over the length of the contract. This is the point I'm trying to make though:

It is guaranteed money anyways. If we don't spend the money made available by the restructure, it rollsover to the following year giving us additional cap space.

So since it is already guaranteed, why wouldn't we generate the cap space?

The exact same amount actually, just spread not in 1 season. So you reduce the cap hit this year and prorate over the length of the contract.

I honestly think people look at dead money the wrong way. It should be viewed as a sunk cost in the current season. Is Jahri worth the cap savings we get? I don't think so

I agree, which is why I want to keep signing free agents and push the can until Brees retires. The salary cap could be enormous by then anyways.

Even if we do have to take a 1 year hit when Brees retires, it would most likely be a bad year anyways with a new QB. His rookie contract would probably offset the dead money hit.
