Guys,I posted this on another thread. Don't mean to be repetitious, but in case some missed it, these excerpts, also from Bruce Feldman's Meat Market, give a complete picture of the unique human being named Ed Orgeron.

I always thought of him as a buffoon, but I admire the way he clawed his way back up when he hit rock bottom.

His overcoming alcoholism and regaining his career when it would have been so easy to quit means that, ultimately, the Ed Orgeron story is a story of triumph.

In four years as coach of Miami's defensive line, Orgeron had groomed three first round NFL draft picks as the Canes won two national titles. Suddenly, in an instant, it was all gone. Orgeron had drunk himself out of his dream job. With nowhere else to go, Orgeron went home to his parents' house in Larose.

"Those were the longest steps in my life," he says. I was back to sleeping in my old bedroom with the same basketball league trophies in there after having just lived in Miami on Brickell Key. For those first couple days I couldn't even get out of bed."

His mother was "crushed," says Orgeron. "but my father kept telling me, 'You stick with it. You're gonna come back better than ever. Just get it together. You're alright.' Those words meant a lot to me, and there was no pressure when I was living back at home."

No pressure except the sinking feeling that, at age 31, his college coaching career was over.
