Do you think Chief got tired of having to support a weak offense

and saw the writing on the wall for a continuation next year?

Crossed my mind.
Might not want to be on a sinking ship like he was at UT.

this has already be suggested 100 times on this board in the last day.

No. I think that is a simple-minded conclusion drawn by those who want blood.

He's the DC, I don't think he cares about our offense when we control the clock.
He's old and has been coaching for 27 years. Just let the guy make more money before he retires.

I think Chavis believed he held all the cards and once he realized that he didn't he ducked out like a bitch.
That's what I think.

As long as the defense improves there, even just a bit, he will be labeled a savior.
He makes more money.
Has an offense to support him.
Didn't get along with Alleva.
Soured on Miles.
Mix and match, could be anything. I'd say money definitely mattered though.

To some degree yes

Chief know that there is talent at LSU, more talent than at A&M. He wanted a guaranteed contract. All coaches think they can coach up talent, so him going to A&M was more about securing his future.

You do understand that a ball control offense helps a defense right?
probably not but I thought I'd give it a shot

He saw the Miles clause and knew he'd be out of a job and a paycheck in 2 years or less. Smart move by him.

Was he tired of the offense supporting him last year?

I would think that's the biggest thing. Everyone criticizes his late game defense but he has no more wrinkles left by the end of the game because we're 3 and out on offense so much

I think that whoever has a beef with Coach Miles, Alleva or Chief, will use this to conform whatever Narrative they have around it. Whether it has any relation to the truth is a completely different thing.
Going to A&M at this time is NOT a good career move. It is a HURT EGO move, and 58 year old men should know better.
