Hypothetical: It's Friday & Chavis is gone, LSU's #1 available candidate at DC?

My top 5:
1.) Vic Fangio (LOOOOOOOOOONG SHOT)
2.) Ed Orgeron
3.) Jeremy Pruitt
4.) Lance Anderson
5.) Ellis Johnson (still think the guy can coach defense, though the Bama loss was embarassing)

I would go after Veneable.
The worst part of all this is we probably had a shot at Muschamp had it happened earlier.

Do people posting him realize he's never been a DC?

is Bo Pelini looking for another job still? Miles really liked Pelini so I bet he gets a phone call.

I think a case can be made for going after Randy Shannon:
1. Can recruit South Florida.
2. 6 years DC experience, 5/6 years finishing with top 10 D nationally
2001: 6th
2002: 7th
2003: 2nd
2004: 28th
2005: 4th
2006: 7th
3. Has SEC experience

Venables
Dunbar
Pelini
Are guys I like. Would have loved to have Narduzzi, but he got the Pitt job.
ETA: Bud Foster, but you know he is just waiting on Beamer to finally let go of that job.
Now that I look at Aranda, he has looked pretty good over the last 3 years. Ohio State game aside, the guy has been putting up quality defenses at Utah St (14th in 2012) and Wiscy (7th in 2013, 3rd in 2014). They lost like 8 guys on defense last year, and still put up a statically better defense this year. The problem would be switching to a 3-4 defense which we do not have the guys to do so.

Les Miles will hire Ellis Johnson.

I will not shed any tears over Chavis' departure. Yes, he is a good coach, but when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter, his track record at LSU has been iffy at best.

Greg Mattison. The guy consistently had top 10-15 defenses at Michigan, he was the DC at Florida in 06 and has been a pro coordinator. Hire Oregeron as DL coach if Brick leaves and you can argue that we have upgraded.
