Really b/c one of the conditions to Miles' hiring is that he had to keep Jimbo Fisher on as OC.
Usually, the incoming staff keeps one of the assistants to maintain some continuity. If Miles left on his own then the AD can work with the new coach to keep continuity intact. If there is a home run hire that insists on picking a new DC instead of inheriting one of the top DC's in college football buy out his contract at that point.
Don't lose him today over a what if scenario that may or may not play out in the next four years.
This tells me that those in the know believe that Mile's plans to retire soon or his seat is about to get a little warm.

I think it tells me more that Chavis and Miles didn't see eye to eye or Chavis and Alleva didn't see eye to eye. Realistically I think that Miles and Alleva are in agreement that maybe Chavis was a little too high maintenance and Miles has someone in mind.
Honestly, I would like for Chavis to stay and our offensive staff to be feeling some heat for this crappy passing game we fielded. At a minimum I would rather lose another game or two with Harris starting to get him the reps for next season. I think Jennings is at his ceiling.
