Yep.

We were #1 and #2 and it was the last game of the season in an era where it was still en vogue to disregard the bowl outcomes or preempt them outright when awarding the NC.

Nixon was a football fanatic.

I remember reading Hunter Thompson's account of an hour long limo ride with him where it was agreed upon beforehand that they would not discuss politics/policies.

Thompson was blown away by the President's knowledge and passion about football, and that is literally all they discussed for an hour (according to both men).
