I've had one slip by me nose to the ground out of bow range during the second primitive weapon season in late January in Mississippi. Hit the grunt he stopped and circled back picked up my bow drew back but never presented a shot. When he turned to walk off I tried to hit it again but was breathing pretty heavy and the reed stuck, got spooked and rolled out.

Also blew the snort-wheeze at a younger deer who was chasing and he took off the other way like he knew he was in a dominant bucks territory. So, unless it's a big buck not stepping out I wouldn't advise that.

Biggest deer for me too date was grunted/snort wheezed in. I hit it sporadically throughout morning hunts, not so much in the evenings on food plots. As far as laying off the snort wheeze in fear of scaring off smaller bucks, that's not necessarily a bad thing IMO. Kinda like the old addage about catching big fish with big bait. But my opinion sucks. I haven't taken a truly big deer in some time now. So tifwiw.
