Everything I said above stands, though.
Incorrect. Black people do not create all of their social problems.
Do many exacerbate some of them? No doubt. That's not a phenomenon exclusive to AAs though.
That's all I meant by saying you're painting with too broad a brush. There are more moderate black folks like me than you might think who are loathe to blame other races for personal struggles.
I wouldn't have married the woman I'm in bed with right now with that attitude

Poor taste my man.

Both you and Scoop are correct - in general.
I think it is unrealistic to expect the black community to instantly pull themselves out of the dysfunctional culture that describes too much of their existence. However, we do have to realize that nothing white America can do will be of any use until a huge majority of them realize that only they can change the direction of their future by realizing the core of their problems lie within themselves.
If any entity can be blamed, it is the DEMOCRAT party. It is the DEM party that has acted over the last six decades to create the problem that exists today = unrelenting attack on the nuclear family as the basis of societal stability rather than governmental largesse.
The effects of this attack on family-centric culture has been felt by whites as well as blacks, but blacks were far more susceptible to becoming totally dependent on government handouts than whites because of their unequal economic position at the time. I think that the original intent of the DEMs was honorable - most of them never intended for their safety net to become a hammock (Humphrey scoffed at the idea that it would) A few, notably Moynihan, warned than it would lead to unintended consequences.
The problem was that any warnings put forth by conservatives (mostly within the GOP) was instantly labelled RACISM!!!!!! and that was the siren's song the unconscionable DEMs latched onto to drive a wedge between the black and white populations. Dishonorable people in the DEM party recognized the electoral advantage that they could secure by keeping a huge majority of the population in perpetual dependence. They could deflect any attempt to reverse this cultural dystopia as an attack on blacks themselves.
Unfortunately, no black leader came forward to lead their people away from this cultural poison. Instead we got pieces of shite like Jackson and Sharpton hijacking the mantle of 'black leader' who the media could flock to whenever any issue arose that effected the black community.
The unholy alliance between the DEM party and the mass media has drowned out any rational approach to reversing the trends of black cultural dysfunction. Whole generations of black children are being raised within this completely false reality.
The few blacks like you and BHP who are struggling mightily against this trend are drowned out by the multitudes like StrongSafety and Trackfan who are unable to rationally discuss any issue involving blacks.
I don't have any workable solutions per se because I just cannot understand the thought process within the black culture - but I do know that whatever solution that has a chance of working must of necessity arise from within the black community itself. We need some black leadership to emerge who is interested in the status of the black community twenty years from now - rather than the percentage of the black community that can be bearded into a DEM precinct for the next election.
Btw = I look forward to all posts by you and BHP - you give me some glimmer of hope that this awful divide can be bridged in some rational way.

quote:Um yeah. They do. If I went into ANY group and somehow waved a magic wand and created the exact family dynamics that blacks have chosen for themselves as well as the same disregard and in some cases, outright hostility to education...... viola', I'd have the same social issues in the new group.
Incorrect. Black people do not create all of their social problems.
