The GOP was going to line up against Rand regardless, but they had better pick some better ammunition than that, because if they don't, he will continue to draw momentum.
It was truly disheartening to see what they did to his father, and Ron never stood a shot at the nomination.
Rand on the other hand is a politician (something Ron never was). And he has controlled his message succinctly thus far.
The GOP won't be able to bully him as they did with Ron. And I promise you, the GOP leadership is grasping at straws at the moment (see article from OP).

One day the GOP will regret this. I think they're already feeling it now. A lot of young folks backed RP and were turned off by the GOP constant attacks on him. He'll be seen as a "prophet" one day in the future.
