I agree we are probably the most advanced. Probably not the first civilization or the last. And if we were to ever experience "aliens" they wouldn't be the grays we are used to on TV. It would be some nano bots or something similar.

The Earth is a dynamic planet that could only produce advanced life 4.5 billion years into its existence. Other planets are as old or much older or much younger.
They would have entirely different conditions that could bring about intelligent life or erase it from ever beginning.
Imagine that species arising then dying off in a few million years, and imagine that length of time across 4 billion years. It makes sense why we don't see any signs of intelligent life.
