Home is where the heart is

I still think we make the NCAA. NIT minimum barring horrible injuries.

whatever it is make sure to keep your 2 seven footers on the bench

I'll say NCAA. There aren't a lot of opportunities for big wins in SEC play outside of Kentucky, but if we hold our own and win most of the ones we're supposed to, I think we'll make it.

NCAA or busts. But we will make it into the PROMISE LAND!

Glad to see there are some people on here who have finally started to listen to me regarding LSU basketball.

Not much to listen in the past few days. You've been notably absent. Please stay that way.

It will be very disappointing if we don't make the NCAA field this year. The SEC is not strong and will not receive any additional consideration for invites. LSU can't afford to give the panel an opportunity to exclude them.
We need to take care of business against the lesser talented teams while having strong showings against the few strong teams. (Kentucky)
Most of our games are televised so we have an opportunity to be recognized. We need to win these four remaining OOC games and get off to a fast start in conference play. I hope we can pack the PMAC and make a few highlights in the national media.

I think we have a good shot at making the NCAA. I definitely have more hopes for this squad than any others in recent years.

Really need to make NCAA's this year, SEC will not stay this weak (after first few teams) forever and if we stay healthy should be no less. Also be great to make it with momentum coming in next year. Know we are never going to be UK of basketball but lets get back to where the weaker schools in conf stay below us every year.

As of TODAY this looks like an NIT team to me. However, there is still plenty of time and opportunity for that to change as LSU has yet to get into the heart of their schedule.
I just don't see a team that does enough of the little things consistently well for them to have a ton of consistency in SEC play. LSU certainly has as much talent (if not more) than anyone in the SEC not named UK or UF. Yet, it seems that in each game thus far (except UMass) LSU has failed to execute in some aspect that keeps their opponent (regardless of how good they are) in the game. One night it's turnovers, the next poor outside shooting, effort on the glass, effort/execution on the defensive side of the ball, poor situation awareness (like attacking the basket for a tough layup with 28 seconds on the shot clock and less than 2:00 minutes on the game when up 8-10 points) etc.

And this might be why the committee only takes 4 of the 14. WIll LSU be one of them? I say 50/50.
As an avid LSU basketball supporter for the last 25-27 years, disappointment has become the theme and par for the course. Starting with the '86 team coming down with Chicken Pox after a 13-0 start (that would all work out just fine thanks to the PMAC ); losing Tito Horford before the second game in '87; Nikita Wilson's academic eligibility; John Williams's early exit; Stanley Roberts, Harold Boudreaux, and Mo Williamson having to Prop 48 in '88-89; a wave of '88-'92 players leaving too early; The Randy Livingston knee situation; Dale Brown escalating the '92 SECt game with UT and Shaq and Carlus Groves -- costing Shaq the next day; Lester Earl fiasco; losing Lamont Roland to injury in early '01; Big baby and Tyrus playing basically intoxicated in Indianapolis in '06; John Brady coaching horrible BIG games in the tourney; Trent Johnson; only having Randolph for 1 year; players in recent years transferring -- you could do a Billy Joel "We Didn't Start the Fire" song with all this.
All that historical fluff said, this team looks to be as strong as a 7 NCAA seed and as weak as a travelling NIT team.

shite, I thought I was negative. Despite all that you listed, only Florida and Kentucky have won the SEC more than LSU since 1986. LSU is still only second to UK in most ever SEC championships, and the only team with double digit titles (11) outside of UK. Also since '86 an LSU player has won the conference POY more times than any other SEC school including UK.
There have absolutely been some disappointing years with loaded rosters, bad breaks, etc., but things haven't been THAT bad. The problem is that the last 5 years have been the worst stretch of LSU basketball since the mid/late 90's probation years. Even under Brady, LSU rarely went more than 2-3 years without making the NCAAT.

From what I've seen thus far I'll say this is a solid NIT team. They will really need to step it up in conference play if an NCAA bid is in the future.
The SEC being weak is a mixed blessing. Could translate to more wins but also to less teams garnering an NCAA invite.

Should be better. I love this site. Been using it for years.

Good stuff, although the win out/lose out columns are pretty much useless right now
But yeah, if we take care of business and win the games we're supposed to in the SEC, we should make the NCAA. People tend to forget that other bubble teams will have bad losses, too.
