Has more to do with the maturity level and experience of the person.
I'm 24 and have tried to date 20 year olds and it just doesn't work. They're too immature, inexperienced, and generally care way too much about what people think of them. I think once a person hits a certain point of adulthood though, it doesn't make a difference.

For women its when they realize their looks wont last forever and they "drop their standards", as they say it. The "Standards" are really complete idealizations IMO. I personally believe those idealizations subconsciously are rooted in media, and certain shows like Grey's Anatomy or whatever other bullshite tv romance shows are out there. The Bachelor?
