i have a friend who is 40 who wont date anyone over 25. needless to say its lot of drama

I can't imagine anything worse than being in your 40s and trying to have a conversation with someone under 25. Even a brief conversation. Most of the girls I know that are that age are as vapid and clueless as my (now deceased) bloodhound.
