Maybe you guys can suggestion a breed. We have 3 younger children - 2 girls & a boy. The girls are fine around dogs but the boy likes to rough house with them like he's the alpha. It's rare but he has been bit. He just fusses at the dog but once he bit my in laws dog back. Funniest shite I've seen.
I'm thinking sturdy, laid back but with a bit of playfulness. It's been along time since I've had a dog just looking for a direction

Need more information. How much time do you have to train/exercise the dog? Take this quiz:

Animal Planet Breed Selector

Offhand, I'd say something like a Lab, a Golden, a Boxer, or a Chessy.

Probably an hour a day. Some days I'm home all day and can do as much as I want. My wife would be able to do it if I'm not there for some reason. Don't know if this matters but our yard is on the medium-sized to smallish side. We plan on making a move with a bigger yard in a year or two.
Thanks for the link. I'll try it out.

ETA: I got Australian cattle dog followed by Brittany. A lab or golden would be a little big for my wife's taste.
