My reaction was pretty meh, and I say that as someone who thinks TDK was one of the best movies I've ever seen.
TDKR just feels like it's not a very good movie, and they just tried to cram way too much into one film. I mean, Bruce is crippled, has to work his way back into shape, become Batman again, have his back/body broken, heal and get himself back into shape (in prison, mind you), escape from said prison, and become Batman again. They could've honestly split this into two films and started the second one with him trying to get healthy in prison in order to escape.
It just felt like they were trying to hash out too many stories and introduce too many people and plots into one film. Seems like an 'okay' film that could've been very good to great if properly fleshed out over the course of two movies.
ETA - Overall, I thought the acting was pretty terrible outside of Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman being Morgan Freeman. Anne Hathaway and that guy who was the sleezy businessman trying to take over Wayne Enterprises were atrocious.

Judging from the meh feedback I've seen on here, my waiting 2 years to watch it was justified

Michael T. Tiger posted one of the greatest observations of this entire trilogy.
quote:
Yoda trained Jedi for more than 800 years. So he loses a fight with the emperor, goes into hiding and tells Obi-Wan he should do the same. "Yeah, this is going to be bad for the galaxy but to hell with it. I'm going to Dagobah and hiding out."
Bruce Wayne goes off and trains for seven years to be the ultimate detective, fighting machine. He comes back to Gotham City and defeats Ra's Al Ghul in a matter of weeks. As soon as he is finished doing that, Lt. Jim Gordon hips him to The Joker, he says he'll look into it. In Nolan's universe, it then takes TWO years for Batman to capture the Scarecrow and he's so worried about the mob that only now, when the mob turns to the Joker, is he really ready to do anything about it. In what again seems like no more than a couple of weeks, he puts down the mob, the Joker, and Two-Face, but loses what he believes to be the love of his life in the process and hangs up the cape and cowl as an outlaw, hated and despised. Eight years later, Batman returns to defeat Bane. This process takes about five or six months. Then he retires again.
So, for all of his training and his sworn duty to fight the criminal element in all manner to avenge the loss of his father and mother, Bruce put the cowl on for just a little over two and a half years total and ran away when the going got tough?
Anyone else have a problem with this?

Batman begins has always been my favorite film in the trilogy.

I rewatched the trilogy the other day after not seeing it for a couple of years. I have to say, I really have no idea what the big fuss was about for TDK. It was not very good. TDKR was horrible. The only good movie in that trilogy was Batman Begins, and it was good not great. I use to like all of them. I'm starting to feel like Nolan fooled us all back in the day. I'm afraid to watch Inception again.

One good but very flawed movie, sandwiched in between a mediocre and straight-up bad one.
TDK has too much dumb shite and horrible editing, action scenes for me to ignore.

Same! This movie is awesome and got me hooked to watch all 3.

Begins is the superior film of the three for sure.
TDK has an amazing performance that carries the film. It's not bad, but not as good as begins.
TDKR is just ok.

Yeah, that's how I see it. It's also thought-provoking as a moral tale. But the narrative is too disjointed (and occasionally cringe-worthy) for the movie to be considered great.

quote:Really? They can only make a two hour movie. This is ridiculous to judge as the same can be said about Iron Man. As far as quitting when the going got tough, he quit when the going got easy. He saved the city from destruction twice and only came out when he was needed. If he would have been needed longer he would've fought longer.

In fairness, it only got easy because he tacitly allowed Gotham to be turned into a police state.
