Dear Sir:

Coach Miles is a brand unto himself, and has a 10-year record that is to be applauded.

At the same time, he does not deserve any additional raises if he decides to consider the Michigan job.

Since this is the third dance with the Michigan position, and since the first two dances yielded He and his agent with extensions and notable increases in salary, that game should not be played a third time.

Please call the bluff, or relent and let him go, if this occurs again.

If he loves LSU, his current salary is perfectly suitable, and he should be perfectly happy with staying based on his current contract.

If he chooses to go to Michigan, lets be understanding and thank him for being a great representative of LSU, and wish him the best as he moves back "home" to where it all started for him.

If he stays, great. If he leaves, good luck.

In either case, please do not change his contract.

Thanks for your consideration.

Who cares how much Miles makes? It affects nothing.

The real issue is the buyout. What Alleva should be doing is negotiating a raise with Miles in the short term while taking back years off the contract buyout. That way, should LSU decide its in the best interest of the program to move on 2-3 years from now, it won't be impossible.

I would have no problem upping his salary to 5M if the buyout was removed.
