I find it funny my biggest winner (really one of my only "winners" right now) is a tobacco company

FLML happened- kept bouncing up and down about $.50 a swing- bought when it was down, shorted when it was up!
I hit a real big one to the tune of $125,000 and realized I was within reach of NBR, so I just kept it up until I overtook him. It was fun, but there's no way I could keep up with that long term and keep my real day job.

I've been busy the last couple of days and haven't had time to respond to the Game discussions.
Ruskie, I hate that you feel compelled to drop out of the game. I respect your admirable reasons for doing so, but can't you stay in the game but not take advantage of your "arbitrage"? Maybe just pick a portfolio and tell us your rationale?
Also, while I don't believe I used any pricing discrepancies, I am guilty of trading on unsettled funds as this game allows. Some of the volatile stocks had some pretty drastic price swings. So even trading on small increments in large volume adds up pretty quickly as we have seen by the gaudy returns. If anyone has the time, like I did as well as others, you can mop up.
With that said, in the spirit of the game, I will limit my trading to a "normal" level. I plan to pick an asset allocation and let it ride for the most part.

I'm going to trade but hold a position for at least an hour. That takes away the brief pricing discrepancy quirk and lets me just make trading decisions based on what I think are over valued or undervalued stocks, which is what I do IRL daily.

Novosibirsk, Siberia.
Have you ever been there? It would probably remind you of Auburn, Alabama....

I made a reasonable 1.14% return today. Would have been better if Apple would have turned it around today.

Nice job.
I decided to short Exxon today as an inverse oil play thinking today's oil price spike is temporary. We'll know before the stock market opens Tuesday morning if it was too risky to do before a long weekend.

Are you in the financial/planner business?
Posted on 1/16/15 at 7:49 pm to LSURussian
Just curious. You seem to have a grasp on trading. Thought you might be managing money for a living.
Posted on 1/16/15 at 7:51 pm to NBR_Exile
I just manage my own financial assets.

I see. I traded a bunch during the dot.com era but that was when life was simpler. Wife and kids have a way of demanding your attention. Since then I have basically gone to indexing with a speculative investment occasionally.

I trade as a sort of a hobby that makes a little money.
I basically have two accounts: a buy & hold account and a trading account split about 1/3 of my financial assets in the trading account and 2/3 in the buy and hold account.
Last year I had about 450 trades with an average amount of approximately $50,000/trade.

Are you seriously in Siberia?
Holy shite haha.. I have a friend who lives in Odessa Ukraine now and he's sent me videos over the years. I remember one of riding a bus in Siberia and there was a foot of snow and ice inside the bus.
That has to be a terrible place to live in the winter. Beautiful women though.
Me, originally from West Memphis. Moved to Tuscaloosa when I was 18.

No, I'm not in Novosibersk. I've worked there several times including once in January. And I've worked in Odessa, Ukraine as well.
