I enjoyed the show, but think it was incredibly overrated. It did have really good writing, but there were many times while watching it that my interest waned, and I found most of the characters so loathsome it just wasn't that interesting.
To answer the OP, season 2 is when it really picks up.

That's exactly how I feel. Glad I watched it, but it's not a show I have any interest in seeing again.
