You don't want rattlers. King snakes get the rats, owls and hawks do too. There are tons of snakes that aren't rattlers. My grandparents have had a huge uptick in rattle snakes (Hutto-Roundrock area) on their farm lately.

One of our good family friends lost their frenchie this past weekend right near there in Georgetown from a rattlesnake bite. They said they got her to the vet within 30 minutes, but the bite was in the rib cage area and too close to vital organs to do anything. Pretty rough Thanksgiving for them.
