Easiest response, and possibly the shallowest one, would be to say, don't put a bed in the kennel...Yes, thank you Capt Obvious.
Honestly it sounds like there is some anxiety issues while he's in the kennel. My chocolate lab would never crate/kennel train...so we quit trying. She would drool uncontrollably. It was disgusting.

Take the bed out. If the dog obeys kennel command then send it to the kennel, but leave the door open. Sit in front of it and pet the dog. Once your done petting, take it out. Repeat for a week or so. It sounds like it associates kennel with being punished. Kennel should be its sanctuary. The next week or so put it in the kennel, pet for a sec and just walk away. Eventually you can close the kennel with it inside and it probably won't go crazy. Hopefully this isn't a behavior the dogs done for a while. Harder to break the cycle if so.

Well you could always take the bed away. The dog will be ok. Really.
