I'm a Crusader fan.
I don't often make predictions, but I will. I can't see Jesuit beating Curtis. Jesuit is a good team, and in all sports play almost mistake-free, and fundamentally sound. It's their way, it's why they can beat Brother Martin's more talented basketball teams. They play "right."

However, Curtis' defensive line is the quickest I have ever seen at the high school level. Broggi is not over-rated, he's not under-rated, he is a good quarterback, but not a great one. Friday night, the Curtis line and blitz were on him within 2 steps. They are that blindingly quick off the snap. That's how they got the blocked punt, and the backfield INT at the end of the second quarter which changed the entire game, giving Curtis momentum going into halftime, creating a 14 point swing and which increased with the first possession of the second half.

Once Martin HAD to pass, it was all over, and even the completions were for losses. That's no way to play catch-up football. A line that quick knowing the offense has to pass and it's all over.

These four games on a Friday are straight-up shitty by the LHSAA. It's deliberate, designed to make life miserable for the private schools, especially since the publics are hitting the semi-finals this weekend. Suck it up and pay Dome rental for two nights if this is the way YOU voted for it to be.

It should be a fun day for road trips, though.

Brother Martin players tweeting about Curtis players' reading comprehension skills may have given them a little boost that game...

It comes down to limited mistakes down the stretch. I think Jesuit will have to play mistake-free football by trying to limit turnovers, which is what they did against Rummel. This where Brother Martin lost the game last weekend. Too many costly turnovers against teams like John Curtis will come back to bite like you had mentioned. Plus, watching the highlights, Brother Martin's defense missed way too many tackles which opened the flood gates for big plays for John Curtis' offense.

The advantage that Jesuit has right now is the fact that their run game is just as threatening as the way they pass. The other night, Jesuit won because they played such a perfectly-executed balanced attack which kept Rummel's defense off guard. Also, Jesuit's interior defensive line is probably the best that I have ever seen; even better than when I attended the school over ten years ago. But the part that scares me is when John Curtis sets up for the pass. This is where they get you. They'll run, run, run, and then outsmart a defense expecting the run by passing to a wide-open receiver 30 yards down field. Jesuit's secondary is going to have to be on their toes all night.

But it should be a great game, and it's also the first ever match-up between the two schools. Hopefully, the Jays can pull this one out!
