So we need an athletic QB to run this offense?

This is not a bash so I'd appreciate some honest discussion.
Can someone explain how we need an "athletic" qb to run our offense? Last year with Mett the offense operated the best it has in over a decade, but certainly not because of qb runs or short-side options. We had a 3,000 yd qb, 2 - 1,000 yd receivers and a bevy of RB's that racked up 2,600 yds with one rb over 1,400+ yards.
Now we have not one, but two, "dual-threat" type qb's and I don't see an offense that looks like it requires an athletic qb.... we don't operate a spread, the read-option, or even the dreaded short-side option. So, was the offense we ran last year the real offense? And if not, why do you need an athletic qb to operate out of the power-I formation when a true drop back passer we had last year executed the offense to near perfection.
What is the allure, or even need, of an athletic qb in this offense?

First off we need Miles and the OC to figure out who is "really" gonna call the plays. After that, it should all fall into place.

Mettenberger was successful because of his experience and maturity. Athletic quarterbacks add an extra element to an offense and create coverage problems for defenses.

Mett's cannon of an arm didn't hurt either, but I wouldn't exactly classify Mett as "mature". Athletic qb's do add an extra element, but is that a reason to recruit them exclusively?
We pretty much ran Rettig out of the picture b/c he was a pure drop back qb.

The most successful QB's LSU has had under Miles weren't duel threat and one wasn't mobile at all. JR, Flynn and Mett. Flynn was fairly mobile though but JR had his limitations.

Looking a BH highlight videos, I don't know what he has done to not be getting more playing time.
Something has wedged Les and Bradon apart. If anybody knows please speak.

Miles halfway gets it. He wants an athletic QB but doesn't know how to use them. They require some measure of freedom to be allowed to improvise. Scramble around until someone comes open. Miles is too preventative to utilize a QB like this.

Mett matured as QB in his final year and was able to utilize his natural talents like never before. Having one online class and an NFL coach helped him focus on his game.

If you think that's true then I have some bad news for you. Rettig didn't have the work ethic, and he wasn't even a pure drop back QB.

That's exactly what they've try to do with DT QBs. Jennings scrambled all night against Arkansas and Alabama. They had to tell Jennings to be more decisive and just run forward instead of waiting for receivers to present themselves in front of him.

The real answer is simple; we don't need an athletic qb. We need an accurate qb who knows how to put the right touch on the ball. In addition we need one who is a born leader who can make good decisions.

It's pretty obvious that LSU runs an offense designed for a drop back pocket passer. These are the types of QB's that excel at LSU. But Les Miles for some reason thinks he needs a dual threat QB. Every single one of these QB's has been just plain terrible.
Now, why does Les think he needs a dual threat QB? That is the question we should be asking.

I concur. I'm not sure why he thinks that way.

agree... and
some short passing plays like screens and slant would help establish confidence w/out having to hold the ball forever.

Well bullshite. You'll have to enlighten us on your sources for the work ethic accusation. I'm skeptical and it's the same 'after the fact' accusation getting thrown around about BH. Always easy to throw the guy who ain't here under the bus and it was widely known that he wasn't Cam's guy.
Oh, and how is the top "Pro-style" QB out of California anything but a drop back passer?

Rettig didn't want to be here after Stud left. It wasn't home for him anymore. Go watch spring practice film where he didn't hustle on fumbles or made throws to the wrong guys.

Jennings was the 3rd best "pro-style" QB out of Georgia. Behind Joshua Dobbs at #2.

I'd say it was the best offense in LSU history tbh

we need an offense to run an offense. a play-caller that knows what he wants to do and how to go about doing it, and a head coach who oversees the operation and does what needs to be done rather than focusing on enhancing his zany ego

We do run read option.
We just don't run a read option based offense like Auburn.
I think we are changing the offense to suit the QBs we have, but since they both started the season off so well have have just decided to run the Capital One bowl "We are just gonna run and hope these fools can't stop us" offense.
