His most known book is Devil in the White City (Erik Larson). Again...nonfiction but reads like fiction. About the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. Tells about the struggles to get the fair organized by the architects and also tells the story of a serial killer on the loose in that area during that time.

Another good book is One Second After. It's a fictional account of the effects of an EMP attack on the US... imagine if everything electronic just stopped working. No modern cars, refrigeration, electricity, communications, medical care, etc.
