i'm not given to negatiger-ing, but james wright and kadron boone were really quite good receivers who should've had the opportunity to participate in the offense. their non-participation is the sum total of my gripe with last year's offense.

Best LSU offense ever and still went 10-3, with no SEC or national championship. Great coaching job by Miles!

This is becoming the new rantard meme.
I know you are smarter than this to realize that last year's offense was great and defense let us down.

Point of story is no matter how much talent we seem to have under Les games will always be close against top teir teams. Why because the offense Les runs is not setup to score tons of points. Its built on clock management and drives that are 10 to 12 plays.

Seemed to be enough for a conference title, so I'm not sure why we're scapegoating a defensive unit that was in the top quintile in the country.
They won the conference title due to luck and special teams.
They needed a Hail Mary to beat a completely depleted UGA team
They needed a 107 yard return to beat Alabama.
When we needed a stop on defense against UGA, we couldn't do it. We also dropped a punt.
When we needed a stop on 3rd and long vs. Ole Miss, we couldn't do it. They were in a near identical situation vs A&M and they got the stop

Well I won't dispute that their run last year was the luckiest I've ever witnessed (run as in the entire season, not the FG return). But to argue that the team we fielded last year shouldn't have come away with more than 3rd in the West and a trip to the whogivesafrick bowl against Iowa is asinine.

Definitely.
Too bad the defense shite the bed against Georgia and ALabama.

Did this in 2013 against Georgia, and still lost. OBJ is tearing it up with the Giants, but look at their sorry defense. Same goes for Mett in Tennessee. If offense is all that matters, Oregon would be 3 time defending champs.
Ok, but what does defensive ineptitude have to do with us having a good offense? I loved our offense last year. I loved how we could put up points in bunches at any given moment, but that shouldn't change completely just because we have a young guy at QB this year. We should also not became ultra conservative in the run game. We should still be running 3 WR, we should be running some speed option, we should still be running and passing the majority of the time from shotgun.
We play like a puckered arse on offense.

LSU will always have talent at the skill positions, but not everyone will see the field at the same time. Should we be more open in our attack, yes. Maybe that will come in 2015, but CLM will never go full out spread and abandon the power football.

I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that our offense was pretty damn great last year. Our D let us down in some big situations vs. UGA and Ole Miss
Also, I really think yall should look at better stats than total yards. As we know in the SEC, all schedules aren't created equal and different teams run their offenses at different paces.
quote:
The Fremeau Efficiency Index (FEI) considers each of the nearly 20,000 possessions every season in major college football. All drives are filtered to eliminate first-half clock-kills and end-of-game garbage drives and scores. A scoring rate analysis of the remaining possessions then determines the baseline possession efficiency expectations against which each team is measured. A team is rewarded for playing well against good teams, win or lose, and is punished more severely for playing poorly against bad teams than it is rewarded for playing well against bad teams.
Football Outsiders Defensive Efficiency Rankings
Auburn #10
LSU #38
Total Yardage stats and ppg are misleading in college with the different types of offenses

We are beyond the point of just conservative. Also answer me this, how many coaches would trot Jennings out there again and again and again without even attempting to try the other guy? At Arkansas was the first time Jennings had completed more than 50% of his passes since September 13th. He has a TOTAL, of 4 TDs in the last 9 games, FOUR!!! How in the hell does this not justify letting the other guy see what he can do?
In Les Miles' Bizarro world it does. Let's see what he does with Harris in the aTm and bowl games. If Harris does not play significant minutes in that game and the bowl game, there is something seriously wrong with Les Miles. It is time to build for the future. We have seen an extended preview of what Jennings has to offer. Now it is time to see what Harris has to offer. Get him comfortable and showcase what he can do. And please, please game plan to his strengths!

i never said Harris shouldn't play

Last years offense was really explosive. But take a closer look at the talent. Was the on field product as productive and prolific as it could have been? We all know how good the big 4 were last year. James Wright doesn't catch one freakin' ball last year...........not one. Yet the Bengals think he is talented enough to draft him in the 7th round. He caught a ball last week against the saints (hmmmm). How can a receiver who didn't catch a ball his senior year get drafted? Well, he didn't get on the field much because JC Copeland and (insert random TE) were always on the field. How explosive could this team have been with 3 and 4 wide receiver sets (Bonne as 4th WR) while running hill out of a one-back set or from the gun? This is a prime example of not maximizing talent due to sticking to a scheme that dos not maximize efficiency based on personnel. What good is it to have 4 really good receivers if you only use 2 at any given time?
Boom.
How in the world do you have a guy (James Wright) who can play in the NFL but doesn't catch a SINGLE pass all season long as a SENIOR WR? It is beyond explanation. You adjust to the talent you have and go 4 wide with Hill as a single back.
When have we had a back better than Hill at finding the crease and exploiting it for a HUGE gain?
When have we had a QB better than Mett last year at making EVERY throw and putting the ball where it needed to be?
The offense was good last year. The fact that it wasn't unstoppable is unexplainable. You had a 5th year SR QB who took one class and spent the rest of the week watching film. He is lighting it up as a ROOKIE QB in the NFL. He was great last year, but how good could he have been with all of those weapons?
It is the scheme. The scheme. The scheme. The scheme.
JC Copeland should not have been carrying the ball nearly as much as he did.

shut up. You have zero reading comprehension skills. I wasn't complaining about the offense last year. I was using the skill from last year to illustrate and compare to this years team and that both did not reach potential.
yes, there are 3 phases to the game. Special teams was really good (see OBJ against ole piss). FG kicking was phenomenal. The D was admiral after the UGA game. So spare me the "but there is more to the game than offense" crap. I'm sick of you tards extracting one piece of a post and attacking it.
and ftr, I am always positive and optimistic relative to the masses, and have supported Miles and the team no matter what and will continue to do so. Dont lump me into a "group" of people that you perceive I belong in based on your inability to comprehend a simple post
Are you fricking kidding me? The entire first two paragraphs of your rambling incoherent bullshite was nothing but complaints about both the offense in 2013 and the offense in 2014.

read the whole thread. you and one other disagree with my post. everyone else agrees and over half have said you are an idiot...which you keep confirming with every subsequent post. was that coherent enough?

Well it's always something, isn't it?
But go on and keep pretending that the offense didn't underachieve last year with those players and that it isn't a direct result of who the coach is. Miles could be here 50 years with the same sort of underutilization of talent and you clowns would still be acting like there was no problem and always finding a way to excuse him.
