You are not going to have the "look of natural steel pipe" if you buy varnished plumbers pipe and then use any chemical to then remove the varnish.
for what you want you need to do as mentioned above and buy some plain schedule 10 or schedule 40 pipe and let it patina naturally.
That stripped varnished pipe is gonna look like crap

It's not gonna look like the pipe that lowes/home depot sells in 1"-10" lengths that are in plastic bags to keep from rusting?
