History shows that wins matter. Team success matters. Putting up big numbers on an average team has not and shouldnt ever win someone the MVP.
PER is a great measure to use but it isn't the end all be all. Does Davis make his teammates better? I don't think you can say that he def does at this point.
What history shows about putting up big numbers on an average team is irrelevant. Davis is not putting up big numbers. He is putting up unprecedented numbers.
Answer the question Boom.... why, in your opinion, does Vegas have his odds where they are? Do you think they think he has a good chance to win it with the Pelicans being mediocre or that they think the Pelicans will emerge as an elite team?

Yes Dwight effect is proven just by having Howard on your team you are almost guaranteed to have a top defense. Last I checked the Pels were a bit below average as a team defense despite having 4 starters that are considered good defenders by the fanbase. Davis has a ways to go before he can claim to make his teammates better on defense as much as D12 does. The numbers prove it.
The defense is not below average when Davis is in the game. Also, that is not what the Dwight Effect shows. Go back and check one of the two threads where you were corrected on it.

flavour of the week, Vegas is interested in making money and the Pels are in playoff contention, once it become obvious that they won't make the playoffs then you'll see those odds change a lot.

I know what the Dwight effect paper said, I was talking more in general terms of having Dwight on your team almost guarantees a top team defense. The Pels team defense is nothing special.
BS Someone posted one of the Pels 5 man units that included Davis that was giving up 120 pts per 100 possessions, that's horrendous.

LINK
lineup of
davis
anderson
evans
gordon
holiday
allows 120+ points per 100 possessions.
That's inexcusable for any supposed DPOY to be a part of such a sorry unit.
ALMOST as bad as the Lakers starting 5.

Seriously we get that you want to have Dwight's babies.
If you seriously think that 1 GM would have taken Howard at 21 over AD at 21 then you have obvious blinders on. Hell AD could end up as physically imposing as Howard then what argument could their be. One guy actually has ball skills and the other probably cant dribble down the floor with his off hand.

Specific 5 man units account for a small percentage of the total time. The one in question is one that includes Ryno playing the 4 and Tyreke playing the 3. I'm sure the much bigger sample size which includes minutes where we actually has more than 2 NBA caliber defenders next to Davis in would tell a different story. Plus, Davis is a power forward, not a center. I think most Pelicans fans have come to grips with that. Why would you post the lineup where he is forced to play out of position because of the teams limitations as a testament to his effect on team defense instead of the lineup where he gets to play his position next to Asik?
Also thats an 80 minute sample size on the lineup you posted. The sample size with Asik is almost twice as large.

It is truly a pleasure watching such a phenomenal start by AD. 21 years old and already the best player on the court every night sans the Cleveland game. Damn it feels good to be a Pelicans fan.

Replace Ryno with Asik and it goes down to 98 points per possession. What is your point? Clearly, that illustrates the tradeoff between Ryno's offense and horrid defense and Asik's defense and horrid offense. Would you not agree?

Someone else brought up Dwight.
Davis is better offensively, yes.
On Defense? No Dwight is better and his teams defense shows it. Who makes their TEAMs defense better? Dwight. Whose team is bottom half of the NBA at defense? Davis. Who blocks midrange shots that prob weren't going in anyways? Davis. Who is better at altering/blocking shots at the rim, a place where shots are more likely to result in point? Howard.

Who's the better player by a wide margin, Davis.
Posted on 11/23/14 at 1:27 pm to TheSexecutioner
I'll say that no 5 man unit with the DPOY has ever and will ever give up 120 points per 100 possessions.

Show me this. Im not arguing because this is the one thing I could see Dwight being better at. I'm just curious. And I know how dishonest you are when giving us spark notes of Dwight stats so I want to check it myself.

Proven winner in NBA, D12.
You can have your numbers, I want my team to win, to make the playoffs.
Davis hasn't even done that.

Thats ridiculous. The sample size is 80 minutes. You know how easy it is to give up that over 80 minutes? A large portion of those possessions could be intentional foul possessions(That is our closing lineup and it could explain why they also have over 120 points averaged)...... Its just a ridiculous claim to make on a sample size like that.

Pels bringing that fiya like a lot of jambalaya. AD and the Pels are making the playoffs this year and will go farther than D12 has been since he left Orlando. Year three in the NBA at 21 years old and the freak known as the Brow is putting the NBA on notice. It's glorious.

Dwight didn't make it to the playoffs until his 3rd year either. And he didn't reach 50 wins until his 4th year

What does that show? I don't see a description and the results don't make sense with that being data from when the player is protecting the rim. The people with the most attempts against aren't even rim protectors.
