Under miles: Jefferson, Shepard, Jennings, Harris

Versus Lee, Metts, Flynn.Russell(les's first year). Only Lee was recruited by les.
Eta: verdict still out on Harris. Looks like maybe he can sling aka Moo st. Game.
.As I sit at work pondering this. Why does miles go after these dual threat guys? If I remember correctly even as bad as Jarrett Lee was at times I do remember him filling in for Jefferson during his suspension and our offense running smoothly. My thoughts its seems like our offense is such much better under a pro style qb or pocket passer than a dual threat. We always have stud running backs and great receivers. Having a qb that can just sling it around like metts, Russell, and Flynn did was successful. I know this topic has been covered a million times but even with a slightly below average qb like Lee was it just seemed like the offense was better. Anybody care to discuss again. I am bored at work.

Because a true dual threat at QB is far more vauluable than a strict pocket passer.
Problem is our "DTs" can barely throw and run.

Me and my buddy was discussing this today. Why does les recruit QB's that don't fit his system? Doesn't make sense

You being sarcastic? Mettsenburger lit it up last year. He is not a runner.

So what your saying is miles has developed some phenomenal college qbs..... got it

That guy ...mettsenburger... was a baller. Brandon Harris can throw the ball pretty damn well though. I think as he grows and gets the playbook down he's going to be really good as well. We've already seen flashes of what he's capable of (mississippi st, NMSU).

Felipe Franks is the answer

Add JaMarcus in the "pro style" column if you're worried about this looking racist. He's probably the most successful pro-style QB of the Miles era.
As for the two types, dual threats are strictly superior when they can actually throw well. The reason we look better with QBs who can throw well is that our passing attack is respected. Our "dual" threat QBs have mostly proven to be single threat QBs - and if you're going to have a single threat QB, it's better for that threat to be a passing threat instead of a running threat. It's a lot easier just to key in on the running game while worrying about one extra potential runner than it is to have to stop a good passing and running attack.
Essentially we struggle more with "dual" threat QBs because most of our dt QBs aren't actually a threat to pass very well, and so our offense ends up being one-dimensional. If Perrilloux had panned out instead of forcing Miles to cut him from the team then we probably don't have this discussion.

Wut? You obviously didn't get my message under a drop back qb our offense looks pretty damn good. I think the only years in miles tenure that the offense was decent. Under the recruited dual threat qb the results of LSU's offense has been horrific. Les developing good college qb's he has recruited = disaster. Imo

Harris has yet to play much of any so remove him from the discussion.
It took Mett to his fifth year to be good, do you want to wait 5 years for every QB to be good? Flynn played exactly one year (few game spots here and there prior), and. carried the ball 100 times, so I would not consider him a strict pocket QB. He also was in his fifth year. Lee was never good here. He showed flashes, but never developed. He was at best a game manager his final year which worked until we played Bama. He also didn't become at least a game manager until he was a 5th year player. So again, do you want to wait to a player's fifth year to have at least kind of decent pass game?
Jefferson was a pro style who was turned into a running QB. As a sophomore (12 games - 2166 pass yards 17 TDs 7 ints 171 rush yards 1 TD) had the 7th best season of the last 2 decades for LSU (which is like WTF). All the others were juniors and seniors. He regressed though. Sheppard was better suited for WR or trying to play in an Oregon style offense from the start. Jennings is just bad but he still has two years and you remember what I said about all those 5th year players right? He can turn it around his senior year, but unless Harris is hurt, I doubt he'll have the chance.
So in conclusion, none of those guys in the first paragraph were good or even decent until fifth year seniors. Two of the guys in the 2nd are still young, one was a pro style turned into a running guy who at least had one decent year (he could pretty much be added to the first paragraph), and the other never should have been recruited here on the premise of him playing QB.

Jennings makes Jordan jefferson and Jarrett lee look like heisman candidates

So what you are saying is we have to wait for them to be here for 5 years to be good? Metts was here 2 years. Fwiw. Didn't play one down at Georgia in a official game and a little juco. Fact is as you state Jefferson regressed, Shepard recruited as 5 star dual threat. My point is why does les recruit these guys. Let's go get a few juco qb's that can throw. Why wait 5 years? As mentioned earlier the ones that were here and were decent weren't even recruited by les.

Not really a dual threat if they can't pass the ball. Single threat maybe...

Truth.
I attribute a lot of drops this year to the wr's saying ole shite is that right too me.

No, what I said was that these guys didn't really do anything worth of note until fifth year seniors.
Mett, as an example, learned at UGA, played at Butler, spent a year on the bench to learn and develop in the offense, and yet still played like a freshman his first year here. He had 12 TDs in 13 games, a 5 game stretch where he didn't complete 58% of his passes, and a 3 game stretch where he didn't complete 48% of his passes.. Threw the ball the most of anyone since Mauck was here in 2003. Had bad pocket presence, no awareness of blitzing corners, stone feet, no touch on his deep balls, and could never put a game away. It took until his 5th year til he played good.
We shouldn't have to wait until a guy is in his fifth year to play good at football.

Because no we have Cam Cameron. Harris is super talented and will be incredible for us once he is the starter next year. We also have the #1 dual threat in 2016 Franks, that is more of a pro style QB if you watch his high school tape. Then we are favored to land the 2016 #2 or #3 pro style QB, Patterson, who is actually the dual threat type of QB. Both are incredible passers though. Franks looks like Kaaya, and Patterson is very accurate.
We are in good hands for the future.

He was also a juco transfer. What qb has Miles and staff ever developed from freshman recruit to senior?
And we also lost three games with last year's awesome "gotcha negatigers" offense. So I guess it doesn't really matter who they have. "The staff" will always find a way to frick the dog.

The same.reason LA can't produce qbs. We find the fastest guy that can run for first downs and not worry about how he throws. Seen it first hand. It's true rather white or black the best athlete plays qb not the best QB

What does a linebacker have to do with this?
