I don't have a single issue with this. If the man wants to put in the time to mal his retirement then so be it.
I asked my cousin and there retirement is like 81% of the 3 highest years so if an officer only made $75,000 as the highest 3 and worked zero overtime, the retirement monthly check would just slightly over $5k a month gross. After taxes and insurance, that officer would only get like $4,000 a month to have to make it on.
If an officer gets hired at 25 and then retires at 55, who the heck wants to HAVE to work for a second retirement starting at 55. That's BS after putting in 30 years somewhere

Well, not retiring at 55 is an option, too.

I agree. That's why it's on the municipality to make sensible rules (easy and quick adjustment: only base salary counts in the computation) and the chain of command to enforce them.
Money isn't infinite.

4K a month isn't terrible.

Cops shouldn't even sniff 75k a year. 50k a year would be generous.
