I think elitism is the overall answer.
I get to go to Dartmouth a couple of times of year for work and it's a different world when you talk to people and listen to conversations at the local restaurants and bars...
My biggest laugh is when you stay at the Hanover Inn (their equivalent of Lod Cook at LSU, except nicer...) there is a button on the phone to order Dartmouth football tickets (their stadium is smaller than the new Tulane Stadium)
