Let's change it to Why didn't.
The big three have finally come out of the closet.
NEW YORK (AP) — ABC, CBS and NBC decided against covering President Barack Obama's speech on immigration live on Thursday, although the Spanish-language Univision network is delaying its telecast of the Latin Grammy Awards to show the address.
The news networks CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC all planned to air Obama live.
Obama is planning to speak at 8 p.m. EST to announce that he is ordering federal action on immigration, angering Republican leaders in Congress.
The major broadcast networks generally carry presidential speeches on matters of national security and other important issues. But there can be a reluctance in executive suites if an anticipated address is seen as heavily political in nature, as well as a fear that viewers interested in entertainment options will flee.
It's not clear what the reasoning here. CBS News, through a spokeswoman, said it declined to comment on editorial decisions. ABC and NBC News also said they would not comment.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the networks' decision was disappointing.

They didn't want most American people to see it or really know what it was about, because if they did, they'd be upset. His speech was targeted to a very specific group and broadcast to them directly.

Interpretation: The networks did exactly what we ordered them to do. We wanted as little exposure as possible about the lies, deceit, and Obama screwing the American people.

how will Obama find out about his speech on immigration if they don't broadcast it

I didn't see an Obama speech. Heard about it later and saw clips on Fox and CNN. I had originally suspected that Obama's speech was designed to piss off low information conservatives, allow Obama to save face with low information libs, and in the end do nothing that isn't already happening. My suspicions have mostly been confirmed.
I see no reason why the broadcast networks should cancel their regular programming to carry something so trivial and pointless to most Americans from a president whose been rendered trivial and pointless.
