I don't WANT it to be bad. But we know that it will be.
It's a train wreck that's very hard to look away from.
And lol at no looting.

These protestors are trying their damndest to stay in the news. I, for one, have Ferguson fatigue.
I think the slow-playing has been smart.
To be fair to the Florida protestors - they got a trial and seem satisfied with the process, if not the result. There were persistent cries for the calm, again, credit the black leaders who, for once, "led" (for lack of a better term) - Jackson and Sharpton were positive influences near and around verdict time - I admit.
Ferguson feels different - there have already been fairly robust looting and destruction and I agree that it is, more or less, concerned citizens protesting, a few out-of-town agitators, and many, many criminal opportunists - almost 3 separate, yet overlapping groups.
Slowplaying this announcement, drawing out the process is kind of like a diplomatic solution to a crisis - the negotiators meet: "There's no way we can resolve this if we sit here for a century. If we stall, maybe the shooting war can be avoided. Let's pretend to talk for 6 weeks." If they walk out within hours or a few days, passions may still be inflamed.

The outside agitators and the criminal opportunists are what will make it bad. I really do feel bad for the innocent people that live there and the ones who actually want to peacefully protest. It seems that the result won't mater. Some people are just looking to cause trouble.
I'm interested in this because I have friends and family of friends who live close to there.

I just read an article about some specifics on the protest from National Review online. This was their chant:
"What do we want?"
"Darren Wilson!"
"How do we want him?"
"DEAD!"
"What do we want?"
"Darren Wilson!"
"How do we want him?"
"DEAD!"

Yeah.
They don't want a fair trial. They want to skip the judicial system and have a lynching.

LE could arrest everyone in one shot if they just opened a Hair Extension Outlet Store.

maybe they've finally found a use for the dome once the Rams vacate...

40 protestors
if that is all they are putting out now, this is going to be nothing. The police can easily contain 40 protesters.

Uh, the verdict hasn't come out yet, Hawk.

sure, but if they only have 40 agitating right now, its not going to get very big - maybe 200, 300? I
Police can easily herd a few hundred, its when it gets to the thousands like it was this summer where its a problem.

If the verdict is to indict then it may be 200 or 300 because they've been practicing and they've already said there will be protests regardless. If the verdict is to not indict there will be over 1,000. It will be a very big deal.

Am I the only one that thinks "practicing" the protest is like a college's marching band practicing?

Well, there are some strategies involved. Like in the recent Hong Kong protests the rioters used umbrellas.

They are already making arrests and the grand jury hasn't released the outcome yet.

I disagree, people are raring to go. Protesters have been bussed in from out of town in anticipation. Announce now and we see a repeat of before.
They need to draw it out as long as possible and keep it out of the news. I'm talking months. shite like this blows over, it's all emotionally based. Out of town protesters are not going to stick around long. Then when it's the last thing on everyone's mind, announce it on blistering cold February day. Preferably a bad winter storm.
You don't pour gas on a smoking fire. Wait for it to fizzle out.
Thanksgiving day announcement. Like breaking a story on Friday afternoon.

We know there are strategies (a.k.a. agendas) involved but the whole practicing just makes it sound.......fake and obstinate.

It definitely could be huge, but I think seeing 40 ppl protesting on a day that was thought to be the release day is a good sign.
I am cautiously optimistic.

This isn't going to be as bad as you guys want it to be.
There won't be any looting.
There won't be any shooting.
It's cold, and that will hinder the desire to rampage.
... thugs gonna thug, regardless of "how bad" we want to see them do it ...

FOX just said there were only about 40 protestors last night on the streets
Well, that's some shite right there. Our oppressed masses are too lazy to show up to protest.

That's because practicing riots is fake and obstinate.
