Good post, LosLobos. He doesn't really pass my "eye test" to be honest (never has) but I suppose that a PG can be an Alex Smith type (KC Chiefs QB) and be insanely effective if he has good weapons around him.

I wasn't aware that his PER was so high and that his A/TO ratio was so sparkling.

To me, Payton is going to be average. Is that bad? Nope. It just means he's a decent starter or a good spark plug off the bench. I always saw his ceiling as something like 14-16ppg on 42% shooting and 7-8ast to 3 turnovers. Tack on about 4-5 rebounds as well.

Who knows how long that'd take to develop though.

Accelerating the process by trading for young vets like Jrue and Tyreke was a risky gamble, but we had to be risky. Franchises rarely get a 2nd shot at a superstar within a couple of years. While teams like Utah lose their superstar (Deron Williams) and can't find another fast enough.
