I know he had his struggles. He finally pulled it together for the Bama game. I think he lacked focus. Skill set was there.

From the Bama game on (when they loosened the chains on him), he was actually pretty good. We played this same offense for the first 8 games that year that we are seeing now. Terrified of making a mistake.

That said, no he wasn't going to beat out Lee.

No worse than Jefferson was, or Lee would have been. You could argue that Les felt like he didn't have a lot of options, but he didn't help himself by sitting everyone on the bench and not getting playing time, further retarding their development until their final senior year.

It's the Les Miles method here is that is the problem, not the fact that the QB's did or did not have talent, or did or could not perform this task or learn the playbook. The overarching philosophy of THIS COACH to play it safe and conservative until the last second, the last play, the last quarter, the last season.... and then try to eke out some level of success in the final waning moments so that he can get to 10 wins, instead of taking chances, learning from your mistakes, and acting like you are trying...THAT is the problem.

Imagine letting Mett get on the field, we take our bumps and bruises just like any other team with a new QB, and then by seasons end, Mett's next Junior year and then the final Senior year, we actually HAVE an effective QB for more than 2 years. Imagine that philosophy, is it so hard to wrap your brain around this?

Not in the last few games he wasn't - esp. against Alabama.
