A few of theses I never heard of. Carcass??? Mercyful Fate??? Testament??? Celtic Frost????? Napalm Death?????
I have never been a fan of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer... seeing them there hurts me.
I get why they are there though totally.
But really NO TOOL?????????

I'm surprised Napalm Death isn't higher.

quote:
Carcass
A British death metal band that began the melodic death metal trend that Swedish group At The Gates would eventually perfect. Their lyrics are highly intelligent and their song structures are pretty elaborate. However, they only released two worthwhile albums.
quote:
Mercyful Fate
The Danish band that originally made extreme metal vocalist King Diamond famous. Along with Venom, they helped launch black metal. Diamond's immense falsetto vocals have always been difficult to access for most metal fans, but their guitar work is superb. Lars Urlich of Metallica absolutely loves them. Their first two albums are considered some of the greatest metal releases ever.
quote:
Testament
The biggest band to break out of the San Francisco thrash metal scene not named Metallica. Most thrash fans consider them more suitable for the Big 4 label than Anthrax. Their first four albums are thrash masterpieces and they deserve every bit of respect they receive.
quote:
Celtic Frost
Part of the first wave of black metal along with Bathory. Their lyrics are blasphemous and their musicianship is somewhat mediocre compared to most other bands on the list. However, this Swiss trio's theatrics made them a well-established name throughout the underground tape-trading world.
quote:
Napalm Death
Founders of grindcore. Translation: pure noise and chaos. Although they helped give rise to other extreme metal bands and genres, I consider them to be extreme punk more than anything. Jim Carrey has a pretty funny bit about them (he was a big grindcore and death metal fan).
